Coteaux de Garonne
Situated between the Garonne and the Dordogne, the geological wonder of the Entre-deux-Mers region was formed more than 30 million years ago and is visible from Bordeaux.
Cities : Bouliac, Floirac, Cenon, Lormont et Artigues-près-Bordeaux
This veritable belvedere overlooking the city can be accessed from Bassens, Lormont, Cenon and Floirac. These communes have joined together to form the Parc des coteaux, an exceptional lung for the city (barely 10 minutes from the city centre by tram!) and covering some 400 hectares. This string of natural spaces consists of the parks of Beauval and Griffons in Bassens, Ermitage and Carriet in Lormont, Palmer and Cypressat in Cenon, and the Observatoire and the Domaine de la Burthe in Floirac. It presents an unbeatable walking zone of 12 kilometres!
Must see
The Romanesque church at Bouliac affords an exceptional panorama of Bordeaux, the river and the banks with vast meadows where some herds can still be seen grazing. Beyond, the immense pine forest and the Graves vineyards stretch away to the horizon. Toward Artigues, the landscape is more undulating, punctuated with historic vestiges and old villages, large woodlands and meadows alternating with other forms of agriculture, but vines are omnipresent and occupy a leading position both in the landscape and the economy.
Lormont is a typical village, organized in the form of an amphitheatre that stretches up from the harbour to the chateau of "Le Prince Noir", where an incomparable view encompasses the river and the new Jacques-Chaban-Delmas vertical-lift bridge.
