Théâtre du Guignol Guérin
Founded in 1853, the Guignol Guérin in Bordeaux is the oldest puppet theatre in France.
Among the Guérin family, from father to son, the tradition of the real Guignol Lyonnais is perpetuated, a repertoire based on everyday life for both children and parents. Impertinent canut with its flat hat and braid, it is not to be believed that Guignol was invented for children. It was a kind of television news at the time. Guignol became a family show but much later
With his red velvet castelet, the puppets, made of linden or cherry wood, are decorated and then dressed in their costumes.
Previous generations used to give shows on ocean liners, performing all the way to Rio! Today, the Guignol Guérin performs in the Public Garden and the Bordeaux Park.
