Château Tronquoy
It was in the year 1791 that François Tronquoy, both a visionary and a nonconformist by nature, established one of the first vineyards of Saint-Estèphe and wrote the first page of the history of Château Tronquoy-Lalande.
From the moment it was created, he gave the wine an impertinent and original touch by refusing to compete for a ranking in the 1855 classification… all the while aiming for excellence. By building an elegant white stone “chartreuse” with the help of the architect of the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux, he positioned Tronquoy among the greatest names of the appellation for many years to come.
It has all the hallmarks of a great wine: 30 hectares planted on “terrace no.3”, the famous geological formation shared by several classified growths of the Médoc. Its location near the river combined with a gravel soil over deep clay brings liveliness and freshness to the wines.
Every year, the estate produces wines that are truly versatile, combining appealing youth with the ability to age remarkably. Still swimming against the tide within the appellation, Château Tronquoy-
Lalande introduced a limited-production white wine in 2012. The subtle yet daring combination of Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris gives it a soft and rich aromatic profile underpinned by refreshing acidity.
Committed to an organic certification process since 2015, the estate promotes farming practices that are both sustainable and environmentally friendly. This year, a new chapter is being written in the history of the Château, relieved of its “Lalande” title and true to the vision of its contrarian founder, which looks to the future with daring and confidence.
Sustainable approach
Château Tronquoy is certified as an Organic Farming, and the surrounding woodland is classified as a Natura 2000 zone (to preserve biodiversity). The estate has also implemented a number of initiatives to protect local biodiversity: installation of beehives, nesting boxes for chickadees and bats, reforestation, etc.
