The best Brunches in Bordeaux

Brunch remains the favorite feast of late risers! Born in the 19ᵉ century in the United States, it has long since transcended the borders of its native country to conquer the world. In Bordeaux, finding the best brunch is no mean feat! There are a multitude of cafés and restaurants where you can recharge your batteries after a well-deserved lie-in. Brunch with a view, with the family, plant-based or gargantuan... The choice is yours!

High up: Le Tchanqué brunch

Meet us on the 7ᵉ sky of gourmandise, or rather the 7ᵉ floor of this trendy Bordeaux hotel. Named after the famous oyster huts on stilts that line the Arcachon Basin, Le Tchanqué welcomes Sunday foodies to a neat, colorful setting for brunch with a view. While the view of the Garonne River and Bordeaux's rooftops is breathtaking, the buffet will whet your appetite! From oysters to grilled bacon, scrambled eggs to gravlax salmon, mixed salads to floating islands and pastries from La P'tite Boulangerie, everything is mouth-watering. Add to that a choice of starter and main course, and you've got the makings of a deliciously perched Sunday. Bonus? The champagne option to turn brunch into a party.

Atypical & festive: Brunch at Domaine de Raba

Until now, brunch at this Napoleonic pavilion has been reserved for just a few occasions, but from now on the royal feast will take place EVERY Sunday. From 12:00 to 3:30 pm, the prestigious house on the edge of the Bois de Thouars invites you to enjoy an abundant and refined buffet brunch in the astonishing setting of their ephemeral restaurant. Among the delights on the menu: truffled croques monsieur, refined avocado toast, velouté and seasonal tartines, seafood or salmon gravlax. But that's not all. You'll be offered a choice of hot dishes from among the chef's suggestions. Sweet tooths won't be able to resist the chef's exhaustive selection of cakes and pastries, from granola and viennoiseries to brioches, pancakes and special breads. And amid a decor that changes with the seasons, live music and culinary animations add to the atmosphere. For the more festive, the bartender offers a few mischievous cocktail creations for €12. For families, note that their private cinema room becomes your children's kingdom during brunch, with games, popcorn and cartoons. What a program!

Gargantuan and family-friendly: Le Sans Pression

If locals rarely think of venturing into hotels, here's something to make you want to push open the door of some. Discreetly tucked away in the heart of Mériadeck, Le Sans Pression is the kind of restaurant that knows how to make you feel "at home". Every Sunday, for a reasonable price, tables and counters are magically filled with an impressive variety of sweet and savoury dishes made in-house or by local artisans and pastry chefs.

From classic scrambled eggs and bacon to Sunday roast chicken and melt-in-your-mouth potatoes, vegetarian tacos, avocado toast, salads, irresistible lemon cream verrines, viennoiseries and the mouth-watering choux pastries from Chouette, no taste bud will be left wanting. It's also worth noting that the house offers a crêpes workshop every Sunday. Another important piece of information: there's a children's area to keep the little wolves occupied. Flore & Jeanne even organize creative workshops.

Patrimonial and refined: The Zoology brunch

A veritable cabinet of curiosities, La Zoologie is an unusual hotel that has taken up residence in Bordeaux's former Institute of Zoology. From the blond stone columns to the original inscriptions, via the metal structure, this establishment spread over 3 wings is a true testament to XXᵉ century architecture. And in the midst of this heritage jungle, the restaurant treats hungry Sunday diners to a buffet brunch worthy of the place. A brunch that couldn't be more gargantuan, made up of a thousand flavors.

Italian: Ciao a Tutti

Merignac's Italian restaurant Ciao a tutti, jealously concealing a majestic Italian village square decor, also conceals a delicious Italian brunch. Che buona idea! On the program, a menu that sings the praises of good produce with "primi", an assortment of cured meats - Italian, of course, and to die for, no doubt about it - accompanied by mozzarella di Bufala or creamy burrata, grilled peppers and insalata! Secondi, country bread bruschetta with toasted oil or a sweet toasted brioche. And "Dolci", the Transalpine cherry, pizza pops topped with chocolate spread, crunchy crushed pistachios, vanilla apple compote and mascarpone whipped cream. Or the inevitable topped pancakes. All served in one of Bordeaux's most elaborate restaurant settings.

Plant-based: the Monkey Mood Brunch

"Good Food = Good Mood. That's Jenny Le Roux's motto. Trained in Bali, this chef inaugurated this original place five years ago in the Saint-Michel district, and yet the innovative concept gives the impression that it's been open since yesterday. Upstairs, the space is divided between contemporary art exhibitions and yoga classes. On the first floor, the café-restaurant offers Indonesian-influenced flexitarian and vegan cuisine with fragrant flavours. Favorites include pancakes (sweet or savory), Jamu, their house drink, and the Jack burger (jackfruit with 5 spices). A special mention goes to their cheesecake, which changes with the seasons.

Scandinavian and trendy: Suzzi's brunch

Soft and original, that's how you might describe this traveler's brunch. Far from entering a cold Ikea boutique, here you'll find white plaids, wooden rodins and dried flowers, a decor that invites you to relax. On sunny days, the cheerful faces on the terraces make you want to join them and bite into their colorful dishes. Here, you can devour Raggmunk, savory pancakes with potato, bacon or vegetables, lick your lips full of the foam of a drink whose latte art will adorn your Instagram page, and munch on the unconditional Kanelbulle - the cinnamon roll. Also available on weekdays, don't be surprised to find pregnant women and strollers, as the place also makes a point of welcoming families.

Prestigious: brunch at the Grand Hôtel

Imagined by the Chef and his teams, this brunch, served on a sumptuous buffet, looks like a gargantuan escape! A varied selection of breads accompanies pastries, the chef's own pastries and even a crêpe stand. Not far from here, the "écailler" corner offers oysters, whelks, periwinkles, langoustines, crab claws and shrimps. Another buffet is devoted entirely to cold starters, cheese palettes and local charcuterie. Last but not least, two chefs welcome us to the hot-dish corner, offering scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, cuts of meat, bacon, sausages, fish, gratins, burgers and more. Far from being exhaustive, the menu adapts to the rhythm of the seasons and also offers a "Petit Gourmets" area, specially dedicated to children, with supervised activities.
